he Center implemented a new project involving students of Anglia Ruskin University

For over 4 years the regional center for social rehabilitation of disabled children "Revival" cooperates with Anglia Ruskin University, realizing the important ideas.

This university is one of the largest universities of East England. It has more than three thousand students, including many foreigners and it is included in the top twenty universities in the UK. During fifteen years they were performing a charitable mission in Croatia. And when the new chaplain Tony Cant came , it was decided to choose a new country for the mission - Ukraine. This collaboration began in 2012. Then the director of the Center Vasily Pasichnyk was invited to make a presentation of the “Revival” Center. The British liked the presentation, and they decided to come to Chernihiv together with their students. For the first time it happened in April 2013. This year's visit lasted for two weeks from 06.06 upto 17.06.

While in Ukraine volunteers are trying to be active. They didn’t avoid any difficult work. Knowing that the Centre on June 23 was going to celebrate the 20th anniversary, students and teachers enthusiastically worked on streamlining the territory, especially the playground, which was scheduled to meet high-ranking guests and conduct the ceremony.

Together with the patient of the Centre Levchenko Marina, volunteers restored picture that drew at the court during the last visit.

Also, students actively participated in the rehabilitation process, because among them were sport specialist, two nurses, social pedagogues. According to volunteers, they received an invaluable experience for their future profession.

Like last year, they were working together with regional pedagogical lyceum for talented rural youth. Along with English friends, they had a quest tour around Chernihiv, during which the British got acquainted with a tourists’ destination, monuments; was organized a trip to Novgorod-Seversky, to Sedniv, Chornysh and Klochkov villages. Yet the most important purpose of the visit was the British project "Blooming country - happy child." The project involved the creation of flower beds “Garden therapy” (treatment by plants). The initiator of this interesting idea was the director of "Revival", a children's neurologist Natalia L. Zenchenko.

Project was financed by Anglia Ruskin University. Seedlings were grown into vegetables specifically by Lyceum students at the research site located in the tract "Yalivschyna." At the Centre patients, students and Lyceum pupils planted these plants on the prepared flower bed. Now the plants not only please the eyes, but also is useful as one of the most effective treatments.

This method of treatment - "Garden Therapy" in our country is used for the first time. And the effectiveness of this rehabilitation is standing next to horseback riding and Caniço therapy. Garden therapy - a special line of psychological, social, employment, educational rehabilitation, based on the involvement of children with disabilities to work with plants. It combines the positive effect of the fresh air, natural beauty and the opportunity to practical use of the results of labor. Besides this activity has a pronounced psychotherapeutic orientation. The usage of Garden-therapy gives positive results due to the fact that it directly dependent on the efforts invested in it by child labor. During sessions with Garden therapy children learn the whole variety of seeds and plants, learn to distinguish between conventional and ornamental varieties which are planted themselves, watching the growth and development of plants and notice all the changes that occur with them, compare the results. They learn to be patient and considerate, caring and hardworking. Children gain knowledge about the diversity of shape and color of fruit plants, terms and conditions for their collection, expand knowledge about the flora. And then learn to use plants and manufacturing products from natural materials. Sacs of collected medicinal plants are for the multifunctional aids, act as aromabags. Use them for sensory development (children can investigate them through various analyzers). This helps them to develop creativity, imagination, ability to work in teams with peers, expanding knowledge about the surrounding world. Seeds of plants are a beautiful and effective material to stimulate bioactive points, work with them promotes fine motor. This work affects the health promotion of children at correcting defects and compensation motor development. Especially important is effective, active attitude to nature, especially through work, emotive feelings and emotions. A wide range of baby during labor action in nature facilitates entry into practical skills related to research activities, creation of conditions for the formation of personality, capability of self-realization, creative perception of the world and the future of socially significant activities. Communication with plants and basic work skills improve mood of a child, affect emotions, raising concern for others. The technology of Garden therapy is a combination of all of these activities.

So, the staff of the Centre is very grateful to friends for their support in this important rehabilitation method, which is quite important in professional orientation of children with special needs. The main thing that united all project participants, was the common desire to do good works to support children with special needs. They all joined together in an effort to give kids joy and happiness. Today this small park, where there are beds with Garden Therapy - another cozy corner in the Center where parents with children can relax, because contact with nature has a positive effect on people, making them kinder, it awakens the best feelings, gives aesthetic pleasure, distraction from stress, instills courage, optimism, improves mood.
