A joint project of students at Anglia Ruskin Universystety and Regional Centre of Social Rehabilitation for Disabled Children
At the Regional Center for Social Rehabilitation of Disabled Children "Revival" from 15.06. till 26.06.2015, for the second time was implemented common volunteering project with the participation of students and teachers of Anglia Ruskin University.
This time they were joined by the Regional Pedagogical Lyceum for gifted rural youth to improve their knowledge of English language, and at the same time try themselves in the role of volunteers.
For two weeks at the Center the representatives of both schools were helping to organize rehabilitation process, were creating for the patients of the Center interesting entertainment. Students made a real labor landing: cleaned and painted benches, helped the staff to clean the territory.
In addition there was a cultural and linguistic interchange, for students to make possible at so-called "summer language school" to improve knowledge of English and for the guests from Great Britain - to get acquainted with the culture and life of Ukraine.
British gladly visited Baturin, Kyiv, where at the Heroes' Square worshiped "Hundreds of Heaven", visited etnofestyval "Land of Dreams". The program included familiarization with architectural and museum Chernihiv heritage, various types of folk art lessons of Ukrainian language, Ukrainian folk dances and cuisine.
Yet the most important result of the project was the creation the children's area at the Centre the scale drawing, which will have a significant positive psychological impact on children during rehabilitation, promote their good mood, fairy-tale atmosphere. It is important that in creating of the picture has participated a former patient of the Center - Marina Levchenko, who is now studying at Kiev Art Lyceum.
In general, the charity event was attended by students and six teachers from far away Britain.
They sincerely were touched by the cultural heritage and difficult present of Ukraine. As the result of the perception of our culture was the final meeting of the project at children's concert when English friends were showing wonderful and inflammatory Ukrainian dance, studied under the guidance of choreographer of the Center.
Very touching moment of the meeting was the reciting of a verse by the British student Shevchenko "Svitaye ..." in Ukrainian language.
At the end of the event, foreigners got symbolic gifts and awards. While students stay at the Center there was an atmosphere of friendship and mutual understanding, sensitive and attentive attitude to children.
There was so much needed for both parties the exchange of experiences on social support for children with disabilities in Ukraine and England.
